Haas Foundation Awards Tech Center $7,500

Jonesboro - The Northeast Arkansas Career and Technical Center has been awarded $7,500 for student scholarships.

The announcement was made by Kathy Looman, Gene Haas Foundation Administrator.

This is the second consecutive year that NEACTC has been awarded.  In 2015, Carey Beavers, representing the Gene Haas Foundation, presented instructor Ricky Barker with a check in the amount of $10,000.Haas7500

The remaining $7,000 from the original grant will be announced in the annual Career and Tech Center awards ceremony April 22nd.  Seven students will each be awarded with a $1,000 scholarship to support their post-secondary career in a machining-based program at the college of their choice.

Scholarships are provided to NEACTC current or former students currently enrolled in or that will be enrolling in a machining-based training program at the college level.

Funds may also be used to pay for student certification costs for NIMS, the National Institute for Metalworking Skills.  Obtaining student certifications will be crucial in the future to support career and technical education in the state.

According to Barker, “This is the exact type of support that our students need.  I cannot be more appreciative of the support of the Gene Haas Foundation.”
